PH Stocks: Selloff Continues on Poor US Manufacturing Data

Manila—(PHStocks)—Philippine stocks were down for the third straight session Tuesday, 4 February, amid news of poor US manufacturing data for January.

Overnight in the US, benchmark indices fell through key support levels: the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed down 326.05 points (-2.08%); S&P 500 fell 40 points (-2.28%) to 1,741.89; and Nasdaq declined by 106 points, or 2.6%.

The mainboard Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) dropped below the 6,000 level, shedding as much as 2.15% or 129.29 points to close at 5,886.01. All sectors finished in the red. The Property index shed 3.44%; the Mining and Oil segment, 2.42%; and the Holding Firms sector, 2.33%. The All-Shares index dropped by 1.82%.

PSE-4-Feb-14Volume turnover was 1.14 billion shares valued at PhP6.75 billion. Foreign buying reached PhP3.6 billion while foreign selling was PhP4.71 billion. There were 29 gainers against 133 losers, while 30 stocks were flat.
