PHStocks Week in Review: Optimism

Manila–(PHStock)–Local shares ended the week on a positive note, recovering from a three-day poor performance, on optimism of a possible bailout deal in Greece next week. The mainboard Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) closed at 4,880.71, up by 2.03% from last week, and 20 points shy of breaching the 4,900-point mark.

The week of 13-17 February, however, had several setbacks. From a 4,802.03 close on 13 February, the PSEi dived to 4,775.93 points, together with most counters on Valentine’s Day. The drop continued on 15 February, with PSEi closing at 4,772.47 points, until 16 February, with a closing of 4,766.57. The news of Greece possibly sealing its bailout package next week pulled up stocks on Friday, with the PSEi surging by 2.4% to close at 4,880.71 points.

All counters except the Mining and Oil index posted growth, led by the Services index, which rose by 4.26%. The Property index pulled a 3.62% gain, while the Financials index continued its steady growth, this wee posting an increase of 2.89% from last week.
