RHI Beefs Up Corporate Governance Initiatives

Makati—(PHStocks)—Recognizing the generally lower score of most publicly-listed companies (PLCs), listed sugar producer Roxas Holdings Inc. (PSE: ROX) recently announced the composition of its Corporate Governance team that is tasked to align the Group’s corporate governance practices with global standards.

The team is led by the Group’s Compliance Officer, Atty. Florencio M. Mamauag Jr. and supported by his two Deputies, Atty. Marie Lyn P. Casem and Jeremy John A. Pintor, who is also the Deputy Head of RHI’s Strategic Affairs Group.

In a statement, Roxas Holdings President and CEO Renato C. Valencia affirmed that RHI’s commitment to corporate governance is a clear priority. “RHI aims to score high in the ASEAN Corporate Governance Scorecard,” he said.

Valencia noted that Pintor, as deputy head of the Group’s Strategic Affairs, will assist in efforts to make Roxas Holdings among the top Philippine publicly-listed companies (PLCs) in corporate governance. Pintor is credited by the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD) as part of the team that helped catapult the cities of Iloilo, Marikina, Naga and San Fernando in Pampanga into the hall of fame for public governance.

Before joining Roxas Holdings, Pintor was formerly the Senior Program Officer of the Institute for Solidarity in Asia and a topnotcher at the University of Asia and the Pacific (UA&P). He has five years of experience facilitating and leading sessions with the public sector, such as local government units, national government agencies, sectors, professions and even cooperatives on strategic management and balanced scorecard-based Performance Governance System. With a Masteral Degree in Management from UA&P, he has helped teams design and implement change initiatives and processes while taking into account their organization’s uniqueness and idiosyncrasies.

Meanwhile, Atty. Mamauag and Atty. Casem are seasoned corporate lawyers. Atty. Mamauag is the Vice President of Roxas Holdings’ Legal, Compliance and Admin. He is the Group’s Assistant Corporate Secretary, Compliance Officer and Corporate Information Officer (CIO). He is also the Corporate Secretary and VP-Legal of Central Azucarera Don Pedro Inc., Central Azucarera de la Carlota Inc., Roxol Bioenergy Corp., Najalin Agri-Ventures Inc., and of the other subsidiaries of RHI. He obtained his degrees in Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Bachelor of Laws at the San Beda College in Manila. He is a CPA-Lawyer, a Professor of Law and a Bar Reviewer in Labor Law at the College of Law of San Beda College in Manila.

Atty. Casem is the Deputy for Legal and Compliance of the Company. She graduated at the Ateneo de Manila University School of Law and has since then represented several banking institutions and special purpose vehicles in corporate rehabilitation proceedings. She also represented a diverse group of clients in family, civil, criminal, tax, labor and land cases.
