PH Stocks Edge Closer to 6,000-pt Mark

Manila—(PHStocks)—Local shares ended the year’s first week of trading on a very strong note, as the bellwether Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) closed at 5,971.45, up by 0.63% – another record high for the local bourse.

The wider all-shares index also gained a further 0.41% to end the week at 3,778.43. All counters except the Industrials sector went up, although not significantly. The Services sector managed to pull in a 0.79% gain, while the Holding Firms segment went up by 0.75%.

About 1.62 billion shares changed hands today, valued at nearly PhP7.59 billion. There were 98 gainers against 67 losers, while 49 stocks were flat.
