BBWI Inaugurates ₱1.5B Water Treatment Plant to Boost Bacolod and Murcia Water Supply

Bacolod Bulk Water Inc. (BBWI), a subsidiary of Tubig Pilipinas Holdings Inc., today inaugurated its second water treatment plant serving Bacolod City and the Municipality of Murcia, marking a significant milestone in strengthening water security in Negros Occidental.

The inauguration and facility inspection were led by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., together with Congressman Albee Benitez and other local officials. The event was also attended by the Ambassadors of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the State of Israel, as well as diplomats from the European Union, highlighting the project’s national importance and strong international support.

Valued at ₱1.5 billion, the new facility is designed to deliver safe, reliable, and affordable potable water to households and businesses in Bacolod City and Murcia. The plant currently supplies approximately 40 million liters per day (MLD)—about 40% of Bacolod City’s total water demand—with infrastructure in place to scale capacity up to 60 MLD. Combined, BBWI’s two water treatment plants are capable of serving up to 750,000 residents.

“This project demonstrates how strong public-private partnerships and foreign investments, when channeled into strategic and focused water companies such as Tubig Pilipinas, can deliver critical infrastructure that supports the Sustainable Development Goals,” said BBWI Chairman Ryan Yapkianwee.

Beyond Bacolod and Murcia, Tubig Pilipinas continues to expand its national footprint. The company is currently constructing the 50 MLD Jaclupan Bulk Water Supply Project in Talisay City, Cebu, which is expected to be operational within the year. Its growing portfolio of operational bulk water facilities includes San Jose City (Nueva Ecija), Cadiz City (Negros Occidental), Catbalogan and Catarman (Samar), Nabua (Camarines Sur), Echague (Isabela), Trece Martires City (Cavite), Coron (Palawan), Sual and Labrador (Pangasinan), and Borbon (Cebu).

The inauguration underscores Tubig Pilipinas’ commitment to addressing water scarcity through scalable infrastructure investments, supporting sustainable urban growth and improving quality of life in communities across the country.
