ACEN Achieves Full Transition to Renewable Energy Portfolio
ACEN has marked a major milestone in its transformation journey, successfully transitioning its entire power generation portfolio to 100% renewable energy earlier this year. This achievement reflects a strategic shift initiated nearly a decade ago. In 2016, the company’s 1,000-megawatt installed capacity was largely coal-based, with renewables accounting for only about 2%, at a time when fossil fuels dominated regional power systems and large-scale renewable projects were still emerging.
Driven by the growing urgency of climate change and the long-term risks of carbon-intensive assets, ACEN deliberately pivoted toward clean energy. The company realigned its strategy, redirected capital, strengthened internal capabilities, and gradually reduced—then exited—coal investments. As a result, ACEN’s attributable renewable energy capacity has expanded to more than 7 gigawatts, covering projects that are operational, under construction, or backed by signed agreements. Now the listed energy arm of the Ayala group, ACEN is among the fastest-growing renewable energy platforms in the Asia-Pacific region, with the Philippines as its core and largest market.
Beyond its domestic base, ACEN has built a diversified regional footprint, including a wholly owned platform in Australia, operating assets in Vietnam, India, and Lao PDR, and strategic investments in Indonesia and other markets. “This milestone reflects our long-term strategy to align ACEN with the future of the energy system, while supporting decarbonization in a commercially disciplined way,” said Eric Francia, President and CEO of ACEN.
As a developer, builder, and operator of renewable energy assets, ACEN leverages agility and collaboration to help accelerate the energy transition across its markets. The company now operates on 100% renewable energy generation and has set a target of achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, in line with global climate goals.
In 2025, ACEN completed and advanced a diversified renewable energy portfolio comprising 4,634 MW of solar, 1,957 MW of wind, 115 MW of geothermal, and 304 MW of battery energy storage capacity. These projects contribute to cleaner and more reliable power systems while supporting economic growth and local development in host communities.
Reaching 100% renewable energy generation provides a strong foundation for ACEN’s next phase of growth. Looking ahead, the company is focused not only on expanding capacity but also on enabling a just, orderly, and inclusive energy transition that delivers long-term value for stakeholders—demonstrating that clear ambition, matched with disciplined execution, can create meaningful and lasting impact.
