Megaworld Enters MICE Sector with Launch of Mactan Expo in Cebu

Megaworld Corporation is formally entering the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) sector as part of its strategy to further strengthen tourism-driven developments within its townships. The initiative begins with the opening of Mactan Expo, the company’s first standalone convention center, located inside the 30-hectare The Mactan Newtown in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu. The ₱1.5-billion facility is positioned as a key venue for high-profile international events, including activities under the ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) 2026, starting with the ASEAN Travel Exchange (TRAVEX) scheduled from January 28 to 30.

Designed to set new standards for world-class conventions in the Philippines, Mactan Expo blends modern functionality with Cebuano culture and identity. Its pillarless main hall enables flexible, large-scale events, while curated architectural and artistic elements—such as seashell-adorned installations, coastal-inspired abstract artworks, and commissioned works by Cebuano artists—celebrate local heritage. The venue features a VIP lounge, Muslim-friendly prayer rooms, themed conference spaces named after Cebu’s iconic beaches, and comprehensive event services. An intuitive layout and ample parking further support seamless guest movement and efficient operations.

The opening of Mactan Expo marks Megaworld’s broader push to diversify its township portfolio nationwide. To lead its MICE expansion, the company has appointed veteran executive Louella Caridad, former chief operating officer of World Trade Center Metro Manila, who brings over two decades of experience in exhibitions, real estate operations, and property management. Megaworld’s MICE business will work closely with Megaworld Hotels & Resorts to offer fully integrated event solutions that combine venues, accommodations, and food and beverage services. Looking ahead, Megaworld plans to roll out additional convention and exhibition facilities in key tourism destinations over the next five to ten years, supporting the country’s ambition to attract more international conventions and large-scale events.
