DFNN Issues Clarification on Media Reports Concerning NAIA Biometric E-Gates Project

DFNN, Inc. has issued a clarification and correction in response to recent media reports regarding the rollout of biometric and electronic gate (e-gate) solutions at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), citing the need to address statements that may cause public confusion. The reports, published and broadcast on December 23, highlighted the implementation of biometric e-gates at NAIA Terminals 1 and 3 during the peak holiday travel season.

The company welcomed media attention on the strong collaboration between the private and public sectors, particularly the efforts of the New NAIA Infrastructure Corporation (NNIC) and the Bureau of Immigration (BI). DFNN commended the management teams of both institutions for delivering the project within a short timeframe and in time for the Christmas season, contributing to a smoother and more efficient passenger experience at the country’s primary international gateway.

DFNN clarified that the NAIA biometric and e-gates project is a direct engagement between NNIC and Amadeus I.T. Group SA, which fully funded the project. Amadeus engaged iWave, a subsidiary of DFNN, as its local implementing partner responsible for operations and maintenance. DFNN emphasized that neither DFNN nor iWave is a contracting party to the NNIC–Amadeus agreement, and that iWave works directly with Amadeus.

The company further clarified that the ₱1.5-billion contract referenced in the reports does not relate to the NAIA project. Instead, the amount pertains to a separate contract awarded by the Bureau of Immigration to iWave and its joint venture partners for the supply of biometric and border control e-gate solutions at other international gateways, including Cebu, Clark, Bohol, and Davao.

DFNN reiterated its support for the successful and timely deployment of biometric and e-gate solutions at NAIA Terminals 1 and 3, noting that the initiative reflects a shared commitment by NNIC and the Bureau of Immigration to enhance passenger convenience and efficiency. The company added that the project brings Manila’s airport terminals closer to global best practices and helps ease congestion at the country’s main aviation hub, benefiting both Filipino and international travelers.
