PHStocks Week in Review: Milestone One

Manila—(PHStocks)—Local shares achieved a milestone last week as the Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) breached the 4,800-point mark by closing at at 4,822.08 on Thursday, 2 February.

However, the market retreated on Friday, 3 February, to end at 4,758.57 points, probably after investors’ profit-taking. Nevertheless, weekly performance is satisfactory. Compared to the market closing last week, the PSEi was up 1.68%. All counters except the Industrial Index were up week-on-week, led by the Financials counter, which surged 4.89%. The Property Index came in second with a 3.08% growth.

Overall, the trend is good, considering we are just at the beginning of the year. Provided no drastic economic changes happenning suddenly in the country or elsewhere in the world, PHStocks expects the trend to continue, and the market to eventually hit the 5,000-point mark.
