PH Stocks End First Trading Day of 2014 in the Green

Manila—(PHStocks)—Philippine stocks were up in the first trading day of the year, lifted by the seasonal “January effect”.

The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) rose by 1.6% or 94.43 points to close today’s session at 5,984.26 – the fifth straight trading session of growth.

All counters also finished on strong note, with the Mining and Oil index gaining 2.29%, followed closely by the Financials, which edged higher by 2.28%. The Industrials went up by 2.19%, while the wider All Shares index posted a 1.23% increase.

Trading, however, was slow, as most investors are still on their holidays. Value turnover today, 2 January 2014, reached only PhP3.82 billion on 480.7 million shares traded. There were 105 gainers against 36 losers, while 34 stocks remained flat.
