Berong Nickel Extends Winning Streak with Prestigious Environmental Award

Berong Nickel Corporation (PSE: BNC) received the prestigious Presidential Mineral Industry Environmental Award (PMIEA) for its exemplary environmental, safety, community development and social responsibility performance.

Established in 1997 through Executive Order No. 399, PMIEA is conferred annually by the DENR Mines and Geosciences Bureau to deserving companies to promote private sector participation and enhance public awareness on the protection of the environment and ecology.

“This is a first for BNC and for the DMCI Mining group. We are honored and grateful for the recognition,” said DMCI Mining president Tulsi Das Consunji Reyes.

“The award is a well-deserved tribute to our people who have worked so hard to keep our mine open despite the pandemic and setbacks in the past,” he added.

BNC also won the Best Mining Forest Contest (Metallic Category) for its Ridge to Reef program which aims to protect coastal areas and marine ecosystems through holistic intervention.

The double victory came shortly after the company received multiple awards for its Gender and Development initiatives.

BNC was proclaimed as the 2021 Gender Sensitive Mining Company in the MIMAROPA Region for enabling and empowering women to rise from the ranks and lead in a male-dominated profession.

Two of its personnel were also honored as the Most Empowered Women in Mining in the MIMAROPA Region for 2021.
