AboitizPower Declares Full Commercial Operations of Davao Baseload Power Plant

Taguig—(PHStocks)—Aboitiz Power Corp. (AboitizPower, PSE: AP) subsidiary, Therma South Inc. (TSI), has declared commercial operations starting February 2, 2016 of the second unit of its Davao Baseload Power plant. Unit 2 will add another 150MW (130MW net) to the Mindanao grid.

TSI earlier declared commercial operations of its first 150MW (130MW net) unit last September 18, 2015, allowing customers to receive 50% of their contracted supply.

President Aquino led the ceremonial inauguration of the 300-MW power plant last January 8.

“The commercial operations of the Unit 2 could not have come at a better time as Mindanao suffers from power supply problems brought about by El Nino. TSI will provide much needed baseload power for our customers, hopefully contributing to the long term solution of the Mindanao power problem,” TSI President and COO, Sebastian R. Lacson said.

TSI’s Unit 2 has been undergoing testing and commissioning for the past several months and has, in fact, been delivering, on a non-committed basis, commissioning energy to its customers at discounted rates. By declaring full commercial operations of the two units, TSI’s customers comprised of 20 electric cooperatives and distribution utilities in the Mindanao region can now receive their full contracted capacity.

The power plant currently supplies a significant portion of the power supply to the cities of Davao, Cagayan de Oro, Gen. Santos, Zamboanga, Butuan, Kidapawan, Tagum, Koronadal, Digos, Pagadian, and Cotabato, among others.

It also supplies power to the Davao region, Cotabato provinces, Sultan Kudarat, Agusan provinces, Surigao provinces, Zamboanga provinces, parts of Bukidnon, and parts of Misamis.
