IP Converge Granted PhP105M Loan to Set Up Fort Bonifacio Data Center

IP Converge Data Center Inc. (PSE: CLOUD), the information technology and telecommunications arm of IPVG Corp. (PSE: IP), has signed a PhP105 million loan agreement with Banco de Oro Unibank Inc. (PSE: BDO) to finance the construction of a new Internet data center facility in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig. 

IP-Converge’s main Internet Data Center located in RCBC Plaza, Makati, provides local and international customers with various Managed Data Services including co-location services, data and network security, disaster recovery, business continuity and a host of other customized services and facilities. The main data center is close to reaching its capacity due to an ever-increasing demand in premium data center space and environment, as business in the country continues to grow.

“We see a significant rise in ICT spending being directed towards data center services this year,” says Reynaldo R. Huergas, President, IP-Converge. “We want to ensure that the company has the resources to address the continuously growing demand.”

According to Huergas, the new data center will be a state-of-the-art “green” data center facility, “utilizing the latest practices and technology that promote energy efficiency and conservation”. He added that by building a green data center, the company will lessen its carbon footprint and thus, contribute to a global cause.

A green data center may be defined as a facility with a specialized environment for the storage, management, and dissemination of data, in which the mechanical, electrical and computer systems are designed for maximum energy efficiency and minimum environmental impact. Some practices and characteristics in such a facility would include: the use of communications and storage equipment with a high energy efficiency rating; Data Center Virtualization to maximize operational efficiency; the streamlining of structured cabling to improve airflow; and the use of fire suppressants with no significant reduction of oxygen level and zero ozone-depleting potential.
